Location: Billings Montana

Summary: The Medical Director is a key member of the wound care center management team consisting of him/ herself, the Program Director and the Clinical Coordinator/Manager. Personal/professional room for growth within our program.

The Medical Director’s primary responsibility is Quality. The Medical Director has responsibility for providing both education and coaching to the entire wound care team. A large part of the Medical Director’s role is promoting the clinic and building the multidisciplinary panel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Quality

  • The Medical Director is responsible, in conjunction with the Program Director (PD) and Clinical Coordinator (CC), for being thoroughly familiar with and the implementation of the Healogics Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) within his/her center. In collaboration with the PD and the Healogics VP, Quality, he/she should ensure that necessary modifications are made to the Healogics PIP to ensure compliance with local Medical Staff Rules, Regulations and Bylaws
  • The Medical Director is solely responsible for Quality Patient Care within the Center and though he/she is assisted by the PD along with the CC his/her responsibility cannot be delegated.
  • The Medical Director should actively chair and conduct the Center’s monthly performance improvement meeting and;
  • Leads the interdisciplinary performance improvement initiatives that monitor the performance of the Center and ensure compliance with its written policies with the input of the Program Director.
  • With the support of the PD, ensure the Center meets the requirements of all regulatory and accrediting agencies, including, but not limited to, the State Health Facility Licensing Agency, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO), and the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS). In cooperation with Hospital designated personnel and in conjunction with programs established by the Hospital thereafter, provide patient care assessment and program evaluation services with respect to all services provided at the Center and ensure that appropriate action is taken at the Center, based on the findings of such programs
  • Review the Center Medical Records and process of care on all patients enrolled at the Center every 4 weeks for each major wound type.
  • In cooperation with Hospital Administration and Program Director, review and respond to any complaints and grievances and recommend or take corrective action where appropriate, in accordance with the bylaws, rules and regulations of the Hospital or Hospital’s Medical Staff, as the case may warrant.
  • The Medical Director will serve as liaison with affiliated medical institutions for services such as hospitalization and emergency medical services.
  • The Medical Director will participate in Regional and National Medical Director conference(s) related to wound care improvement or new wound care information.
  • The Medical Director will use all reasonable efforts to facilitate attending physicians and nursing personnel to adhere to Clinical Practice Guidelines and the Hospital/Medical staff patient care policies. The Medical Director will monitor physician and nursing staff documentation to ensure completeness, timeliness and accuracy of coding. The Medical Director is responsible for HBO chamber quality and safety. He/she must ensure that every treatment is for an approved indication and that there is a physician present for every treatment in accordance with local rules and regulations. He/she must further ensure that the physician’s presence is appropriately documented and there are orders and progress notes for each treatment. He/she must also ensure that there is an appropriately trained safety director appointed for the Hyperbaric Unit.
Mentor:
  • Supervise the provision of services by all professional and ancillary Healogics staff at the Center and provide in-service education programs for such staff as may be required
  • The Medical Director shall be responsible for the training and orientation of all WCC® Physicians. He/she shall schedule new WCC® physicians to attend Healogics' “Introduction to Hyperbaric Medicine and Problem Wound Management Course” or another equivalent course approved by a Healogics corporate medical officer. He/she shall be responsible for conducting a new physician orientation program in which all new wound care physicians will demonstrate to the Medical Director an adequate knowledge of the Clinical Practice Guidelines, routine and high tech dressings along with debridement techniques and levels
  • The Medical Director shall provide a means for continuing wound care education, introducing new advances in wound healing as well as new product reviews. He/she shall, also, from time to time review wound care basics such as the factors that inhibit wound healing, etc.
  • The Medical Director shall serve as an educational resource for the entire WCC® including the medical, nursing and administrative staff.
Promoter:
  • In cooperation with Healogics and Hospital, enhance the marketability of the Center services and promote the use of such services in the community and have the following specific program development responsibilities;
  • In cooperation with Healogics and Hospital, enhance the marketability of Center services and promote the use of such services among the local medical community;
  • Provide regular formal presentations to various audiences (i.e., medical staff meetings, hospital department meetings, grand rounds presentations, local medical and community organizations, service clubs, etc.) to enhance the visibility of the WCC® in the local marketplace and surrounding environs;
  • Actively schedule and participate in one-on-one discussions about Center services with primary care and surgical specialties;
  • Act as spokesperson for WCC® services when local media opportunities arise.
  • Support the joint effort of Healogics and Hospital in drafting and implementing an annual business plan.
  • The Medical Director shall function as the principle recruiter for both attending and consulting staff. Building and “rounding out” the interdisciplinary panel is the responsibility of the Medical Director
  • The Medical Director shall maintain a working knowledge of DCS resources such as The Regional Support Team consisting of the Regional Vice President, the Regional Director of Clinical Operations and the internal Medical Advisory Panel along with the Corporate support team which includes your corporate medical officers, the reimbursement team, quality services team and the information systems team.

1. Qualifications:
Medical degree and three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

2. Supervisory:
The incumbent in the position will informally supervise 8-10 employees.

3. Education/Experience:
Medical Doctorate Degree.

4. Language Ability:
Ability to define problems, collects data, establishes facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or

diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

5. Math Ability:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

8. Work Environment:
The incumbent in this position is not required to work under any extreme conditions, but may be required to work around fumes or airborne particles 5% of the time, and outdoor weather conditions 40% of the time. In addition, they must be able to work around a moderate noise level such as an office environment.

9. Physical Demands:
The incumbent in this position typically has to stand approximately 40% of the time, walk 20% of the time, and sit 30% of the time. In addition, the person is using touch or feel 80% of the time and reaches with hands and arms 15% of the time, along with talking or hearing 75% of the time.
