In this position, the Staff Development Nurse Educator coordinates staff development functions for the

Assesses staff educational and performance needs in relation to organizational goals, and acts in a consultative/collaborative role for educational and clinical practices.
Works under the direction of, and collaborates with, the Director of
St. Vincent
Healthcare University to optimize financial, operational, and performance efficiencies of the Staff Development pillar and to promote the culture of SVH as a learning organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Educator
?
Incorporates principles of adult learning into the planning, design, and delivery of education programs relative to designated service line.

Incorporates variety of teaching modalities to meet learner’s needs
·
Considers key principles of adult learning when prep! aring course outlines, objectives and materials
·
Recommends and develops curriculum tracks within the Staff Development pillar to facilitate staff in their pursuit of learning as relevant to their work at SVH.
·
Develops evidence-based core curriculum and advanced curriculum for nursing staff
·
Provides consultation to develop core curriculum and advanced curriculum for other clinical and support staff roles
·
Coordinates, directs, and participates in hospital wide, and service line specific patient care
orientation and competency validation.
·
Incorporates mandatory program topics as required by regulatory bodies (i.e., CMS, The Joint Commission, etc)
·
Assesses house wide and service line specific orientation agendas on an ongoing basis for content relevance
·
Plans, coordinates, and actively participates in biannual house-wide skills fairs and service line specific skills fairs as warranted ! by needs assessment
·
Provides ‘just-in-time’ educational activities on an as needed basis
·
Prepares short and long term planning of programs that address identified needs and aligns with organizational strategic goals.
·
Publishes upcoming program announcements within 8 weeks prior to the presentation when possible

Uses clinical and information technologies to the fullest extent possible in the development and delivery of educational programs.

Actively engages in development and delivery of simulation lab scenario validations

Utilizes electronic Learning Management System (LMS) to deliver and track educational offerings

Researches and promotes access to online educational offerings and! resources
·
Provides ongoing evaluation of the qual! ity and effectiveness of the educational activities to ensure that they add value, enhance professional development, and promote the delivery of high quality, cost effective care.

Incorporates participant feedback when updating and revising course materials

Conducts program evaluations that are designed to measure transfer of learning
·
Tracks departmental quality measures and takes action to remediate opportunities for improvement

Identifies and recruits internal and external resources for educational activities as appropriate.

Manages Montana Nurse’s Association (MNA) continuing education providership activities throughout SVH.

Establishes and maintains processes to ensure that ANCC criteria are used to plan, implement and evaluate continuing nursing education offerings.

Maintains policies and procedures for Provider Unit

Supports the development of nurse planners in the organization
through education and mentoring

Maintains accurate and current files for all CE activities provided
·
Meets MNA requirements for annual reporting, notification of changes in the provider unit and reapplication for provider status.

Education, Experience and Licensure/Certification Requirements
Requirements are
representative of the minimum level of knowledge, skills and/or abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position
Current MT RN licensure
Current BLS certification
BSN degree required, MSN degree in Nursing or other Healthcare field preferred
Certification in Professional Staff Development or Healthcare Education preferred
Minimum of three years clinical nursing experience required
Minimum of two years experience as an educator in a healthcare environment preferred
Demonstrated Knowledge of adult learning theories and educational program development
Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically within a multi-functional team
Strong organizational skills and attentio! n to detail
Ability to successfully function in a fast paced, service oriented environment
Experience in understanding and usage of computers, including the Microsoft Office suite, as well as the ability to learn applications relevant to the position
