Interventional radiology nurses (IR RNs) are responsible for monitoring patients during radiology treatments and ensuring the patient’s comfort while educating them on invasive radiology procedures. The IR RN also assists radiologists during procedures. Unique to the IR RN’s duties is conscious sedation, in which the nurse, working under a physician’s direction and supervision, administers sedation and analgesics to the patient to achieve a mildly depressed state of consciousness.
