Fort Harrison (Helena) is a 48-bed acute care, medical-surgical facility that offers a broad range of acute, chronic, and specialized inpatient and outpatient services for both male and female veterans. Specialty care includes internal medicine, gerontology, neurology, dermatology, cardiology, palliative care, pain management, medical oncology, surgery (general, vascular, laparoscopic, endoscopic), urology, orthopedics, plastic, ophthalmology, ENT, podiatry, gynecology, chiropractic care, psychiatry (including outpatient substance abuse treatment and PTSD and MST specific care), and ambulatory care (primary care). Radiology Service provides a broad range of diagnostic and interventional care provided on a full time basis. Pathology Services are availa! ble on site also provided on a full time basis. Telemedicine s! ervices are available for psychiatry, radiology, gynecology, primary care, ophthalmology and tele-home health. The 24-bed inpatient mental health facility serves patients needing treatment for PTSD, Substance Abuse and Acute Care.

DUTIES:
The incumbent practices as the professional clinical coordinator of acute care in Patient Care Services within VA Montana Health Care System and supports the mission and vision of the Health Care System.
Patient Care Services provides acute and chronic care needs for VA Montana Health Care System including a wide variety of services for adult and elderly Veteran patients. Basic Life Support certification and ongoing staff nurse competencies for the assigned work unit are to be maintained. The Inpatient Clinical Coordinator is responsible for collaborating with the Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager and administration to facilitate unit efficiency and processes. This nurse will:

Monitor and evaluate unit practice and application of policies and procedures, ensuring standards of care and standards of nursing practice are followed.

Design and coordinate unit based orientation.
·
Collaborate with the Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager and staff for ongoing competency and staff development with guidance and direction from the Designated Learning Officer.
·
Provide leadership in working with the interdisciplinary team to promote optimal holistic care for the Veterans.
·
Assist in developing, then implement, evaluate, and revise specific nursing and interdisciplinary projects, programs, and action plans related to the work unit.
·
Provide recommendations to the Nurse Manager and Assistant Nurse Manager of ongoing education and process improvement needs of staff.
·
Support a global perspective in prioritizing work and assisting team function.
·
Promote team building activities among unit staff.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
U.! S. citizenship. Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible t! o recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency
and
accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professi! onal nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6)
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

MSN or BSN Preferred, CNL Preferred
GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel.
