Position Summary:
The RN utilizes an interpersonal process that uniquely focuses on the total individual and his/her

role in their family, culture, and society. The RN utilizes the nursi! ng process, which includes

assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. The RN fulfills a patient

advocacy role: by ensuring the patient has adequate information to make health

decision; by coordination of total care; and by working with the patient to reach the ultimate

goal of self-care. The RN is guided by the substantial specialized knowledge of nursing based

on the physiological and psychosocial sciences. The RN ensure that the quality of patient care

meets legal and professional standards and also acts as a role model to other members of the

healthcare team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Position Based Competency:
Assessment:
?Completes holistic, age-specific admission history, physical assessment

and nursing plan of care on all assigned patients in an ongoing manner to monitor for deviations.

?Analyzes and incor! porates clinical data (i.e. lab, x-ray and all diagnostics) to!

formulate an individualized plan of care.

?Identifies and documents patients at risk for nutritional and functional status.

?Identifies and reports signs/symptoms of neglect/abuse related to child, domestic, or elder abuse.

Planning:
?Sets priorities for and reviews daily plan of care, in collaboration w/ patient/family significant

other and other healthcare disciplines.

?Delegation to team members is based on patient needs, continuity of care, staff

skill and knowledge.

?Communicates w/physician to ensure coordination of medical and nursing plan of care.

Implementation:
?Demonstrates competence in performing technical skills.

?Proactively recognizes and demonstrates ability to manage urgent/emergent patient care

situations.

?Demonstrates knowledge and technical competence in preparation and administration of

medications and Is per scop! e of practice and hospital policy.

Evaluation:
?Documents nursing interventions, patient's response to care, and patient outcomes.

?Evaluates data to review the plan of care to meet the changing needs of the patient.

?Evaluates response to interventions against expected norms for age and development.

Patient Education/Continuum Care:
?Identifies and documents patient/family learning needs and provides education, based

on assessment in collaboration and coordination with patient, family and interdisciplinary team

members.

?Identifies and documents discharge planning needs.

?Coordinates or delegates all discharge activities: completes or validates transfer/discharge

documents, post hospitalization instructions related to medications, activity, wound care

and follow-up appointments.

?Documents patient/family response to education.

Unit Spe! cific Competency:
Temporary Pacemaker, Chest Tubes, Epidural! Analgesia:
?Setup and insertion.

?Maintenance.

?Troubleshooting.

Ventilators:
?Intubations.

?Care of Patients.

?Ventilator Checks.

?Troubleshooting.

?Suctioning-In-line and Open.

?Extubation.

?Interpretation of Parameters.

CVP Lines, Arterial Lines:
?Setup and insertion.

?Maintenance.

?Troubleshooting.

?Removal.

Conscious Sedation:
?Patient Monitoring.

?Medications.

Vasoactive Drugs:
?Purpose.

?Setup and infusions.

?Side effects.

?Calculations.

PAR:
?PAR Score (React)

ACLS:
?Rhythm Interpretation.

?Algorhythms-Bradycardia, Tachycardia, Asytole, PEA, Megacode.

Education, Experience, and Licensure/Certification Requirements:

Requirements are

representative of minimum level of knowl! edge, skills, and/or abilities.

1.Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

2. Current MT license.

3.

BLS certification.

4. ACLS upon completion of departmental orientation.

5. PALS within 1 year of employment.
