Description: Department of Veterans Affairs is employing Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) right now, this position will be placed in Montana. For detail informations about this position opportunity please read the description below. Duties:
As a Psychotherapist, the incumbent provides outpatient behavioral health services and crisis response to Ve! terans with the full spectrum of mental health disorders including Serious Mental Illness, PTSD, Depression, Anxiety, other mental health diagnoses and substance use disorders.
The incumbent must use a high level of skill in assessing and treating the complicated psychosocial problems of Veterans. The incumbent independently identifies high-risk patients and implements appropriate safety protocols. He/She provides crisis intervention services and has working knowledge of referral process for inpatient psychiatric hospitalization and residential PTSD, SUDS, and other specialty programs. Duties also include thorough assessments to determine the presenting problem, to determine in-home factors impacting the problem and to determine obstacles to recovery and/or follow-through with recommended treatments. Case management with members of the outpatient interdisciplinary team is provided in order to coordinate a collaborative effort to meet the agreed upon goals for a Veteran'! s recovery needs and include liaison with community profession! als regarding need services for Veterans and/or their families. Services include but are not limited to referral to programming to address homelessness, hospice services, nursing home care, home health services, financial resources, VA benefits, and transportation services.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-11 LEVEL: Requires a minimum of one year of post master's degree in mental health counseling experience in the field of health care. This experience must have been in a clinical setting and must have demonstrated the potential to perform advanced assignments independently. (A clinical setting is a medical center, clinic - medical or psychiatric, residential treatment center, or any other type of facility where social work participates in a collaborative treatment and is identified with the medical profession.) Experience must have been obtained AFTER earning a Master's Degree in mental health counseling (or related ! field).

SUBSTITUTING EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE AT THE GS-11 ! LEVEL: A doctoral degree in mental health counseling (or a related field) may be substituted for the require 1 year of professional mental health counseling experience; AND licensure or certification in a state at the independent practice level. POSITION : Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) - Behavioral Health Outpatient Therapist, GS-0101. One full time permanent position. This position is located in Behavioral Health Service at the VA Montana Health Care System, Missoula, MT.
Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, generally Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. but may include late afternoon and evenings and possibly some Saturdays.
Salary: Applicants education and experience will be reviewed by a Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. The ! recommended salary may be at any point in the range listed for this vacancy.

Qualifications & Evaluations

a. Citizenship. Citizen of the United States. (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3g, this part.)
b. Education. The Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) must hold a master's degree in mental health counseling, or a related field, from a program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Examples of related mental health counseling fields include, but are not limited to, Addiction Counseling; Community Counseling; Gerontology Counseling; Mari! tal, Couple, and Family counseling; and Marriage and Family Therapy. A ! doctoral degree in mental health counseling may not be substituted for the master's degree in mental health counseling.
c. Licensure . The LPMHC must hold a full, current and unrestricted license by a state to independently practice mental health counseling, which includes diagnosis and treatment at the master's degree level.
d. Experience . Individuals assigned to this position must have completed a minimum of 1 year of post master's degree mental health counseling experience in the field of health care (VA or non-VA experience) or a doctoral degree in mental health counseling (or a related field) may be substituted for the require 1 year of professional mental health counseling experience; AND licensure or certification in a state at the independent practice level. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Pre-employment physical is required. The work is mostly sedentary and is performed in a clinic responsible for treating patients with a wide variety of medical problems. Normal safety precautions and practices are required for working a health care environment. This position requires emotional ability to deal effectively with multi-tasking and high volume of patient flow. Other physical demands include reaching, bending, stretching, walking, and carrying light loads of supplies.

1. Knowledge of community resources, how to make appropriate referrals to community and other governmental agencies for services, and ability to coordinate services.
2. Ability to independently assess the psychosocial functioning and needs of patients and their family members and to formulate and implement a treatment plan, identifying the patient's problems, strengths, weaknesses, coping skills and assistance needed, in collaboration with the patient, family and interdisciplinary treatment team.
3. Ability to independently conduct psychosocial assessments and provide psychosocial treatment to a wide variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, educational and other diversified backgrounds. This requires knowledge of human development and behavior (physical and psychologic! al) and the differential influences of the environment, society and culture.
4. Knowledge and experience in the use of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities and treatment procedures. This includes acute, chronic and traumatic illnesses/injuries, common medications and their effects/side effects, and medical terminology.
5. Knowledge of psychosocial treatment and ability to independently implement treatment modalities in working with individuals, families and groups who are experiencing a variety of psychiatric, medical and social problems to achieve treatment goals. This requires independent judgment and skill in utilizing supportive, problem solving or crisis intervention techniques.
6. Ability to independently provide counseling and/or psychotherapy services to individuals, groups and families. LPMHCs must practice within the bounds of their license or certification.
7. Ability to provide consultation services to other staff about the psychosoc! ial needs of patients and the impact of psychosocial problems on health! care and compliance with treatment. Ability to provide orientation and coaching to new LPMHCs and LPMHC graduate students. Ability to serve as a field instructor for LPMHC graduate students who are completing VHA field placements.
8. Ability to independently evaluate hislher own practice through participation in professional peer review case conferences, research studies, or other organized means.
9. Knowledge and skill in the use of computer software applications for inputting clinical data in an electronic patient record, drafting documents, data management, and tracking, especially those programs in use by VHA. Note: The rating factors are the major source of information to be used in making qualification determinations. The rating factors are also the criteria that will be used to identify well-qualified displaced employees. Consequently, persons who fail to complete the rating factors may not receive full credit for their experience. Ensure your application re! flects your ratings.
