Responsible for providing primary behavioral healthcare to patients and families, focusing on health maintenance, disease prevention, patient education and counseling. Works under direct supervision of a physician following established guidelines as required and within established scope of practice.
Job Duties
Duties & Responsibilities
Obtains and documents patient's medical history, with an emphasis on mental health history. Identifies health risk factors.
Demonstrates the ability to diagnose and! treat common mental health and substance use disorders.
Demonstrates the ability to assess the impact of acute and/or chronic physical illness on the patient experiencing substance use or mental disorders.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Orders and interprets diagnostic tests, i.e., laboratory work, xrays, EKG.
Conducts crisis intervention, individual, group and/or family psychotherapy.
Demonstrates the ability to prescribe medications (see individual state laws) and nonpharmacological therapies based on the patient's diagnoses, health history and age.
Encourages positive health behaviors for the maintenance of health and the prevention of disease. This is done through education and counseling.
Always applies standardized care guidelines in clinical practice.
Provides patient and/or family with health education, counseling and referrals to other healthca! re professionals and community resources when appropriate.
Treats patients and families with respect and dignity.
Collaborates with physicians and other members of the health team to plan optimal care for patients.
Works with staff, patients and families to formulate treatment and education plans.
Provides followup care, determines effectiveness of the treatment plan, reassesses and changes the plan as needed.
Documentation meets all standards and policies. Documentation includes all findings, interventions and results.
Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
Functions as a patient advocate.
Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
Stays current with medical advancements, new technology, new drugs through continuing education classes, society meetings, professional journals etc.
Follows the five medication rights and reduces th! e potential for medication errors.
Attends all departmental, o! rganizational and medical staff committee meetings as appropriate.
Assists with development and implementation of specific policies and procedures.
Professional Requirements
Adheres to dress code.
Completes annual educational requirements.
Meets and Maintains JCAHO federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and standards.
Wears identification while on duty.
Maintains confidentiality at all times.
Attends department staff meetings as required within the department.
Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work in designated time.
Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
Coordinates efforts in meeting JCAHO, federal, state and local regulations and standards
Complies with Health and Safety Standards and Guidelines.
Education/Experience Requirements
Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Montana.
Masters Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner's Program.
National Certification as a Nurse Practitioner or certification eligible. Certification must be obtained within the first six (6) months of employment.
Current BCLS Certification.
