As the leader of the Auckland/Northland Protection Planning Team, you will play a key role in maximising the safety and productivity of the majority of the region’s field teams, projects as well as for third parties who have been given approval to access the rail corridor.
Your Role:
Based in Onehunga, Auckland, the Protection team facilitate the most efficient, safe and productive track protection methodologies to maximise field team productivity and minimise the disruption to trains.
The position provides leadership to the team who will plan efficiently and effectively in order for the delivery team to execute across Auckland and Northland.
This is a time for a change in the New Zealand Network with a large number of projects to work on. We have a front-row seat and are one of the key enablers to ensure the Network is more resilient for customers and commuters!
Primary responsibilities will include:
- Lead a team to plan protection work and find ways to accommodate changing needs from our customers.
- Work with the Auckland/Northland Protection Manager to create initiatives to maximise the productivity of all sites requiring track protection by ensuring effective participation in planning meetings.
- Attend or delegate attendance to planning meetings within protection and with our key customers including Infrastructure, track, freight, planning and network authorities.
- Oversee the planning of all protection in the region responsible for.
- Provide Network Access and Control with forward visibility of upcoming work and the intended forms of protection resulting from the respective planning meetings and access requests.
- Oversee the competency management of all staff within your team.
- Review with the delivery team on planned vs actual work together to find solutions to improve the way we do things.
- Responsible for the planning of the Block of Line activity in the network.
- Ensure and participate in applications to network authorities, documentation and other planning needs for the safe access for stakeholders as requested.
- Drive methods to improve planning innovation across the region.
- Lead planned vs actual meetings and regularly report to your line manager on the accuracy of delivery to plan as well as the planning quality and suggested improvements for efficiency and safety.
- Ensure team is chargeable as much as possible via timeseheets of staff to various jobs that they are working on
Your Skills:
To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate the following:
- Previous planning experience 5+ years
- Strong leadership skills
- Previous experience managing a team
- Operational decision making in a safety critical environment.
- Process improvement experience
- Solutions-focused attitude
- Can manage under intense pressure
- Able to look after a number of demanding customers and stakeholders concurrently.
- Ability to work night shifts and attend various shifts as required
- Operations/planning/leadership qualifications
