The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; risk of electrical shock; explosives; risk of radiation; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

SUMMARY Assist the patient pre-operatively; performs duties as a circulatory nurse; may also work in scrub technician role and has direct care post-operatively.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reviews pre-op documentation at pre-admission Verifies operative procedure, site, consent and NPO status. Prepares the patient for surgery, obtains nursing pre-admit history, vitals and allergies Evaluates pat! ient's level of understanding, perception of surgery, and anxiety level. Follows standard procedures for surgical interventions. Ensures the availability and proper function of supplies and equipment. Shares plan of care with all members of the surgical team. Provides emotional support and comfort measures. Gives information or explanations to patients and their families. Applies and monitors the principles of aseptic practice. Assists with anesthesia management. Recognizes symptoms of cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, and/or impending crisis and initiates necessary emergency action. Performs sponge and needle count according to policy and procedure. Identifies, labels, dispenses, and counts medications and solutions safely. Applies principles of proper body alignment during transfer and positioning. Ensures the safety of the patient during the use of electrical equipment. Preps the surgical site using aseptic technique. Correctly collects and accurately labels specimen! s. Directs and guides support personnel. Documents intra operative care! . Monitors and evaluates the patient in the recovery room. Provides patient teaching and discharge instructions. Documents patient response to care provided. Participates and monitors different levels of quality. Prepares and mails specimens for evaluation.

Requirements

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Current Montana License- Registered Nurse CPR ACLS NALS Experience in the Operating Room as a circulator, scrub assistant and recovery room.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent comb! ination of education and experience.
