POSITION
:
Social Worker, Behavioral Health Out-Patient Therapist, GS-0185.
One full time permanent position.
This position is located in Behavioral Health Service at the VA Montana Health Care System, Missoula Community Based Outpatient Clinic, Missoula, MT.
Work Schedule:
40 hours per week, generally
Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm but may inc! lude late afternoon and evenings and possibly some Saturdays.
Salary:
Applicant's education and experience will be reviewed by a Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. The recommended salary may be at any point in the range listed for this vacancy.

This position is also being announced as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) and may be filled either as a Social Worker or Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC).

DUTIES:
As a Psychotherapist, the incumbent provides outpatient behavioral health services and crisis response to Veterans with the full spectrum of mental health disorders including Serious Mental Illness, PTSD, Depression, Anxiety, other mental health diagnoses and substance use disorders.
The incumbent must use a high level of skill in assessing and treating the complicated psychosocial problems of Veterans. The incumbent independently identifies high-risk patients and implements appropriate safety protocols. He/She provides crisis intervention services and has working knowledge of referral process for inpatient psychiatric hospitalization and residential PTSD, SUDS, and other specialty programs. Duties also include thorough assessments to determine the presenting problem, to determine in-home factors impacting the problem and to determine obstacles to recovery and/or follow-t! hrough with recommended treatments. Case management with members of the! outpatient interdisciplinary team is provided in order to coordinate a collaborative effort to meet the agreed upon goals for a Veteran's recovery needs and include liaison with community professionals regarding need services for Veterans and/or their families. Services include but are not limited to referral to programming to address homelessness, hospice services, nursing home care, home health services, financial resources, VA benefits, and transportation services.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Education.
Have a masterÂ's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy stat! us do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited.
A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the masterÂ's degree in social work.

ust be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the masterÂ's degree level.

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-11 LEVEL:
The GS-11 full performance level requires completion of a minimum of 1 year of post-MSW degree experience in the field of health care social work and licensure or certification in a state at the independent practice level.
SUBSTITUTING EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE AT THE GS-11 LEVEL:
To meet the required specialized experience for the GS-11 level, applicant may substitute a doctoral degree in social work from a school of social work. You must submit a tr! anscript to receive credit for this education.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Pre-employment physical is required.
The position is sedentary in nature. There is requirement for walking, standing, bending, stooping while filing, and carrying objects such as files, invoices and other documents. Employee will sit comfortably to do the work. There is some physical strain/demand by having prolonged use of the computer or viewing the computer screen.

Ability to independently conduct psychosocial assessments and provide psychosocial treatment to a
wide variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural, ethnic, educational and other diversified
backgrounds. This requires knowledge of human development and behavior (physical and psychological)
and the differential influences of the environment, society and culture.

Knowledge and experience in the use of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities and
treatment procedures. This includes acute, chronic and traumatic illnesses/injuries, common medications
and their effects/side effects, and medical terminology.
5. Knowledge of psychosocial treatment and ability to independently implement treatment modalities in
working with individuals, families and groups who are experiencing a variety! of psychiatric, medical and
social problems to achieve treatm! ent goals. This requires independent judgment and skill in utilizing
supportive, problem solving or crisis intervention techniques.
6.
Ability to independently provide counseling and/or psychotherapy services to individuals, groups and
families. Social workers must practice within the bounds of their license or certification.
7.
Ability to provide consultation services to other staff about the psychosocial needs of patients and the
impact of psychosocial problems on health care and compliance with treatment. Ability to provide
orientation and coaching to new social workers and social work graduate students. Ability to serve as a
field instructor for social work graduate students who are completing VHA field placements.
8. Ability to independently evaluate hislher own practice through participation in professional peer
review case conferences, research studies, or other organiz! ed means.
9.
Knowledge and skill in the use of computer software applications for inputting clinical data in an electronic patient record, drafting documents, data
management, and tracking, especially those programs in use by VHA.
