The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Montana State University invites applications for a non-tenure track lecturer position at the general chemistry level for August 16, 2013 throug! h May 15, 2014 with additional courses during the summer of 2014 as a strong possibility. Appointments in future semesters are conditional based on acceptable performance in first semester and thereafter (if applicable). Successful candidates are expected to show a strong commitment to teaching at the introductory levels. A Ph.D. in chemistry or a related field is required at the time of appointment.
Responsibilities may include: 1) Teaching on-campus or online courses, 2) Advising, evaluating and assisting students and/or 3) Curriculum and/or course development.
We seek individuals who work professionally and effectively with diverse individuals, possess effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to contribute positively to the academic success of the students and the mission of Montana State University.
Required Qualifications:
1. Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related field.
2. A Strong ! commitment to teaching at the introductory levels.
3. Have! effective interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate successfully with faculty, staff, and students.
4. Be able to relate to and establish rapport with a college student population and must be able to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with various constituencies, including students, administrators, co-workers, and instructors.
5. Exercise good judgment and self-motivation and maintain confidentiality of records and information.

Overview
The Departm! ent of Chemistry and Biochemistry has a broad reach on campus, administering a degree program as well as classes for students in nursing, engineering, physics, biology, pre-med, and other disciplines. At any given time, over 2,000 undergraduates are enrolled in the various classes we offer, with about 135 of those students pursuing one of our three undergraduate major options:
Bachelor of Science in Chemistry
Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (teaching option)
Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (Biochemistry option)
Our degree program - certified by the American Chemical Society - is diverse and flexible, allowing students to tailor studies to their interests. All coursework is career- and employment-directed, preparing students for diverse careers in industry, teaching, and research.
